Dog clothes are a trend that is fast catching on so much so that a whole new industry has been created around it. Dogs aren’t meant to wear clothes and therefore it can be hard to get your dog used to the idea of having fabric covering their bodies. If you aren’t sure that your dog will take to clothing, you could try making some rudimentary clothing yourself and training your dog to get used to the idea of clothing. You want to do this because most designer dog clothes aren’t cheap and you don’t want to spend money on a dog outfit your dog will never or will end up biting it to pieces. Some of the things you may want to try making on your own are sweaters. A dog sweater is basically two pieces that cover the underside and the back and sewn together at the sides, there should be openings for the legs. If you are good with a pair of knitting needles and wool, you could make a cardigan with the two sides fastened with buttons or Velcro on the underside of the belly. If the dog is really small, you could get a really stretchy sock and fashion out some holes where the legs would go.
To make a padded coat, cut out an old quilt and sew a lining in. You could make a raincoat out of an old nylon or vinyl cloth. If you really get into it, you could even fashion out some socks to keep the paws warm. Think of making clothes for your dog as a fun DIY project. It will make dressing up your dog in designer apparel much more fun and easy. There is a lot you can do with some cloth, a pair of scissors and the all important measuring tape. What you make for your dog doesn’t have to be super special; it’s just a method you could use to get your dog used to wearing clothes.
Fashion trends do not suit every dog. A Labrador might look ridiculous in a frilly dog dress but a pug as puggy as his face is, might look absolutely adorable in frilly pink dog dress. This is what makes shopping for dog outfit more fun, the trying out of different styles of clothing to find a look that works for your dog. Buying dog clothes for your dog involves more than just choosing a style, the best style is enhanced by the correct size and color is just as important. You should get the correct measurements of your dog regardless of whether you buy a dog outfit or make one for your pooch. You want your dog to be comfortable. Remember that dogs grow and so their measurements will vary with time. For a healthy dog the variations will be small but if they are extremely big then dressing your dog in fashionable clothing should be the least of your priorities and finding a medical reason should be the first thing you consider.

First they put a tutu on a dog in the circus and made him dance around. Now look at us. Everyone is getting little dogs so they can dress him up like my mom used to do me in the 60s. There are wide ranges of dog clothes from cute little dog dresses, to dog coats and even dog boots to wear in the cold climates. You can get little dog swimsuits, dog T-shirts with funny sayings and formal dog clothes. Go figure.

Take a look at the above photo. Does it get any cuter than this? He is adorable in his little dog outfit and hat. He looks like a little Scottish dog getting ready for a big event. I suppose all the ‘best’ dogs will be there and he wants to look his snappy best.

I’ve seen a lot of dog clothes pictures that didn’t look so nice. The dog dress is too bunchy for the dog’s size or the dog pants just wasn’t cut right for that particular dog. When you’re shopping, you need to do some measuring to make sure you get the right fit for your little guy or girl.

Some dogs love dog clothes! I adopted a dog from the shelter and one day he was acting like he wanted me to put a t-shirt on him. I did and he pranced around like he was the most handsome dog on the face of the earth. Go figure. If he sees a dog outfit he goes nuts wanting to put it on.
